Agent handles routine calls; humans handle exceptions
Routine balance and payment questions are answered by the agent. Representatives focus on the collection cases and difficult conversations that genuinely need a person.
Project record
Business context
Bluechip Collection's process ran entirely on human representatives — outbound collection calls, and an inbound line for every debtor who wanted to check a balance or ask a question.
The routine, repetitive inquiries — what do I owe, what have I paid, how can I pay — consumed representative time that should have gone to cases needing judgement.
System delivered
A conversational agent that answers a debtor's inquiries directly: the outstanding balance, the payment history on the account, and guidance on available payment methods.
The agent verifies the account, answers from live account data, and gives debtors an immediate response instead of a queue.
The system
The hard part
The agent had to be genuinely bounded: collections is a sensitive domain, and an agent that improvises is a liability, not an asset. Scope, tone, and escalation had to be engineered, not hoped for.
Human controls
The agent handles routine account questions only. Sensitive or unusual situations route to a human representative instead of being handled automatically.
